Mindfulness and Meditation: Meaning and Techniques

Mindfulness and Meditation

Mindfulness and Meditation are interlinked. Mindfulness is the state of mind when we mind our every action. This mindfulness can be achieved with meditation. It is the first stage of meditation. Mindfulness provides us with the presence of mind and concentration which helps to achieve meditation.

In our daily lives, we have ignored our minds significantly. It has made our brains lazy, unnoticed and lacks awareness. We have changed because of the modern infusion of repetitive ads on various media. Our individual identity is changing continuously. This has made us unable to identify our true nature and capacity.

“Meditation is the dissolution of thoughts in Eternal awareness or Pure consciousness without objectification, knowing without thinking, merging finitude in infinity.”Voltaire

We are unable to think about how to change this situation and don’t even know how to change it. There is a lot of pressure in our life such as job, family and relationships etc. These pressures have stopped us from thinking out of the box. So in this situation of inability, we get demotivated and unhappy. These all have cascading effect on our whole life.

“Meditation is listening to the song of the inner Soul, seeing the beauty of the inner Self, smelling the fragrance of the inner Spirit, experiencing the touch of the Divine inner energies and tasting the intense sweetness of the inner God.”~ Amit Ray, Meditation: Insights and Inspirations

Therefore we must seek techniques to get rid of these kinds of situations. I have discovered some techniques to resolve these issues.

One way to deal with this condition is to control our mind. It is a mental exercise using mindfulness and meditation. In this method, we bring ourselves into the real world and start controlling our mind and our lives as a whole. Mindful meditation is a very simple yet powerful exercise that can be done very easily. But it requires a lot of practice to feel effective. Once you did it correctly believe me you can control almost all your life.

Mindfulness Meditation Exercise: Technique

As we know meditation starts with closing your eyes and sitting in a relaxed position. Once you feel relaxed and still start focusing on your breathing. Slowly you will see you are moving into a trance state of mind. Here you will start listening to many different voices that you don’t listen to generally.

This voice comes from our body. We start listening to the heartbeat and other voices from our heart. Some of the voices may be like cricket insect. This is the stage we feel very relaxed. Always put a smile on your face while doing meditation, this will enhance your quality of meditation.

This method can be tough initially, but you can concentrate for more time after some time. The first thing we should practice in this method is to sit in a static position. The more static you sit the more concentration you can achieve in less time.

Once you start feeling calm by your breathing and your breath is under your rhythmic control. Then you can move on to focusing on your own body, apart from at a time. I first learned this at yoga class, where we learned to concentrate first on the left foot.

Then we did it for the right foot. After that, we did it for other parts of the body. We did it for the whole body from head to toe. Once the whole body is completed, slowly open your eyes and you will your surroundings are full of mindfulness. The more we do it the more we feel concentrated and mindful. At the highest level of meditation, we can do anything with our body including the healing of any illness.

There are mystics in the Himalayas who can heal themselves with the help of meditation only. They don’t need any medicine or anything. Some of the sages are believed to exists without any food or water. They found their energy from Sun and meditation.

Another technique that can be used is the “Trataka” method. In this method take a candle in front of you and try to concentrate on its flame for at least 6-7 minutes without/minimum blinking your eyes. It will increase the concentration level and peace of mind. This technique can be used for increasing mindfulness in our thoughts.

But Those who can not sit, what should they do?

Those people who can not sit to concentrate even for a minute can take their inspiration from nature. Nature has a lot to teach us we just have to notice it. Take a walk in natural places like gardens, parks, forests, etc, and try to feel each and everything you see.
Once you start feeling nature you automatically improve your state of mind and peacefulness. This peaceful state of mind will increase our mindfulness.

By following this meditation technique we can increase our awareness and mindfulness of surrounding. So by performing this method we can increase our mental capacity. The increased mental capacity can do anything in the world.

For example, sometimes I find it very difficult to do any work-related activity. So I try this mental exercise for as little as 10 minutes and I found it very useful and effective. I start feeling energetic and enthusiastic again within the span of few minutes.

So the effectiveness of this exercise can be felt by doing this regularly. Therefore I’d like to suggest you do it for at least 10 minutes a day. You will definitely love it once you feel the difference.

Meditation improves our thought process as a whole, we start thinking about the various unexplored field of ideas. The new ideas can be analyzed and executed with the help of our mental capacity.

Meditation is the way to feel your inner self and consciousness that have the scope of awareness and self-improvement.

It has some effect on our personal life also. The good effect is that we stopped arguing with our spouse once we achieve some level of meditation. So those who involve in the meditation process has a very good relationship with others.

Meditation is the highest form of concentration technique however, it takes some time to gain real benefit out of it. I do meditations daily and it took me about 6-7 months to get some benefits. In the olden days, people used to get enlightenment i.e. supreme knowledge by means of meditation only.

Therefore it is possible to get enlightenment from meditation also. The only challenge is to do it continuously and until you feel enlightened. It can make some noticeable changes in you within the span of 2-3 months and you will feel good and motivated.

There are many types of meditation that you can do like sitting, walking, standing or lying down. Meditation can be done in any comfortable position. For more details please read the book given in the last.

Most of us complain about the scarcity of time due to their busy schedule. Those people can choose meditation of their choice and can start with few minutes. You will see a lot of difference in few months.

“To understand the immeasurable, the mind must be extraordinarily quiet, still.”Jiddu Krishnamurti

In the last, I’d like to share my idea about meditation. I just want to suggest only one thing i.e. “Do Meditation” no matter what happens. It may be difficult in the beginning but you will thank me after some time. It has endless benefits. Its complete benefits are yet to be discovered, The more we learn about mediation we came to know about its unlimited benefits.

SO JUST DO IT !!!

All the best.
