Everyone looks for success in life whether it is in a career, business or interpersonal relationship. in fact, you work all your life to get success only. No one wants to face failure in life.
If you see, you need success at every stage of life. An infant wants to crawl, a toddler wants to walk and an adult wants success in a career and relationship. So everyone looks for success only no matter what the age of the person.
Being successful is the dream of everybody. You do a lot of hard work for getting success in life. But not all get success in life due to not following certain steps meant for getting success in life.
But,
The meaning of success varies from person to person. Success is having wealth for somebody while having a peaceful life is success for others. So success can not be defined in a generalised way.
But, one thing is sure, if you follow some well-defined and tested steps for success. You will get success. Let’s find out the steps for success in life.
1. Desire for success
It is the first and most important step in achieving anything in life. No one can get success in life until he has desired it. It is like a base of a building, the more strong the base, the more strong will be the building.
I have seen many people who have no desire to get success in life as it needs some effort and dedication.
“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” ~ Napoleon Hill
There is nothing in this world that you can’t achieve. Everything is achievable if you have a burning desire for that. It is the desire for success that enhances your capacity and moves you towards success in life.
Every success starts from the desire. Desire channelizes the energy in a definite direction that leads to success in life.
Therefore you must develop some desire for a successful life. It’s like a catalyst for achieving success in life.
2. Believe in yourself
You can’t achieve anything in life if you don’t believe in yourself. It is the necessary condition for achieving anything in life. You read biographies of any successful people and you will find one thing is common among all i.e. self-belief.
Any success story starts from self-belief. If you have self-belief then your confidence and capabilities increase rapidly. You become successful in harnessing your true power.
“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.” ~J. M. Barrie
“To believe in something, and not to live it, is dishonest.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
You must have seen someone with meagre resources becomes successful and achieve something that many of us aspire to get. The world is full of such examples where a person with self-belief conquered the world.
Therefore first, believe in yourself before engaging in any target in life. Self-belief is the base of every success in the world. So start believing in yourself, you can achieve anything in life.
3. Goal Setting
once you acquired self-belief, it is high time for the “goal setting” of your target. It includes the various steps for achieving your target. Goal setting is the first step toward the execution of the target.
Proper goal setting is necessary for the success of a project or work. So a sizeable amount of time is necessary for the proper goal setting. It must be thoroughly explored and researched as it will decide the course of action for the work.
Of course, there are certain conditions of goal settings like realistic, sustainable, feasible etc that should be considered.
“Goals are the road maps that guide you to your destination.
Cultivate the habit of setting clearly-defined written goals; they are the road maps that guide you to your destination.” ~ Roy T. Bennett
Goal setting must consider the future advancement and changes for effective execution of work. It will ensure the sustainability of your work.
4. Planning
It is the roadmap of your work that means how you are going to do your work. Planning is a necessary part of our life. Everyone must have done some or other planning in their life.
Planning shows you how to use the available resources in an efficient way. It reduces the wastage of resources and improves efficiency.
“A goal without a plan is just a wish.” ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” ~ Yogi Berra
Planning actually tells you how to execute a particular work in an efficient way. Better planning gives better results. So plan carefully and with great consciousness.
5. Identification of resources
Once you have a plan for your target, your next step is a requirement of resources. Resources are scarce in nature. So a proper allocation is necessary for the efficient use of resources.
A good execution contains a detailed requirement list of resources i.e. materials and time management. Time is the most important resource of all. So it should be managed properly.
“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” ~ Warren Buffett
“Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans.”
~ Peter F. Drucker
Suppose you work for an organisation that makes cars. So identification of resources plays an important role in the execution of various planning and is necessary for its effectiveness.
Therefore always make a list of available resources before proceeding further in the execution line. It will enhance the quality and efficiency of the work.
6. Time Management
It is the most important resource for our planning. Completion of work in time indicates successful execution of work. And it increases your credibility and value in the market.
If you look closely at the life of any successful person, one thing will be common i.e. good time management. The better the time management the better will be its execution and efficiency.
“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.” ~ Mother Theresa
“Time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time is like saying, ‘I don’t want to.”
~ Lao Tzu
So you must focus on time. It is necessary to have control of time for an organised and proper execution of work.
In fact, nature is a great source of time management. You can see yourself that each activity of nature happens as per time. So it is a great source of inspiration for you.
Therefore, time management is the main focus of any project or work. It reduces the wastage of resources and gives you an efficient output.
7. Execution as per planning
Once you have all the plans and strategies for work. The next step is to take action or execution of plans. It is the most important step in the process of success in any field.
Without action, all the plans and strategies are a waste. So action is required for getting success in any field. Without execution, you won’t be able to identify the issues related to your plans.
So, it is the best way of knowing the flaws in your plans and strategies. In fact, taking action at the right time is the key to success in life. But, most people hesitate to take action at the right time and complain about their lack of success in life.
“You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.”~ Carl Gustav Jung
“Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.” ~ William James
Therefore, if anyone wants success in life, they have to take action at the right time. Believe me, you will achieve all the successes in your life. Just do it.
8. Monitoring the progress
Monitoring or supervision is an important part of the execution of any work. It ensures the proper workflow as per the plans and strategies.
Suppose you are monitoring the work and suddenly observe some flaws in the process, you can take remedial action. So a major fault averted that improves the quality and efficiency of work.
“Dreams don’t work unless you take action. The surest way to make your dreams come true is to live them.” ~ Roy T. Bennett
It also enhances your ability to work in an efficient and productive way. As you know the areas of fault and you can work for improvement. By doing it for a longer and different scenario, you can easily identify the regions that need proper action.
During my school days, in my class, the teacher used to make a monitor from among all the students. And the job of this monitor is to take care of the class in the absence of the teacher. If any mischievous activities happen then monitor and report them to the teacher. And the culprit gets punishment by the teacher.
So the whole idea of monitoring is to improve the quality and control of workflow for efficient work.
9. Completion of work
After all this process, the main focus is to complete the work in time. It is the completion of work that gives you satisfaction and peace of mind. It also encourages you to take another challenge in life and achieve success.
Completion of work is a moral responsibility of everyone as it shows your commitment to your work. It makes you more capable and efficient.
It also shows your habit of doing work fully. If you see the work culture of any good organisation then you will find that completion of work is their priority. As the client believes in completing work in time.
“Don’t wait for things to happen. Make them happen.” ~ Roy T. Bennett
“Yes, We Can!” ~ Barack Obama
Completion of work is a commitment that everyone should commit to themselves. As it is the completion of work that matters in the last. Therefore complete your work without thinking about efficiency and quality as that you improve later also.
10. Feedback
Feedback is a tool that you can use after the completion of work. It tells you about the desired result. It talks about how things are available in practical life. And you can make them practical if the need arises.
It is a collection of various factors like quality, quantity, efficiency etc. All the things that need to check properly are easy to identify. It is performed by various techniques like form, opinion, rational thinking etc.
Feedback is an important part of project work as it tells you about your performance in the field. It measures your capacity and efficiency in work execution.
“Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Feedback is an integral part of any organisation and it should be implemented in every organisation.
11. Do necessary changes
As you know there are limited resources on earth and we all have to use them. So do it judiciously and efficiently. Therefore some changes are necessary for a healthy execution of work.
“In the end, people should be judged by their actions, since in the end, it was actions that defined everyone.” ~ Nicholas Sparks
Sometimes you need a sudden change in the course of life. So in that case you need to do what is necessary for your work. And never ignore any changes during the course of execution.
Therefore, make yourself aware of the fact that any unforeseen activity main happen. And you may need some changes in the work in order to achieve success in life.
12. Repeat the execution work
After the execution of the work, there may be some important things that need to change for the proper implementation of work.
This process is necessary to repeat as long as the work is complete. And it is like an examination answer sheet that you are going to check.
Although there are several other ways to achieve success in life, these steps are well known and widely accepted. If you follow these steps, you will definitely get success in life.
One thing I must say before finishing is, ” Don’t underestimate yourself, you are more capable and good than you think you are”. So believe in yourself and keep on doing your work. You will get success.
All the best!!!
